Hand-building Ceramic Workshop / Kurinuki
Learn Clay With Me!
Embracing the Wabi Sabi worldview, in a hand and mind-training workshop, I will share my understanding of some Japanese ceramic forms including Kurinuki and different decoration techniques with you. You will sculpt one or two, or as many as you want, Kurinuki cups using stoneware ceramic clay. You can later join a glazing workshop and finalise them for every day use.
I share with you a lot of useful basic theories about clay as well to help you choose the right clay and tools for different purposes.
This Desert Spirit Ceramic workshop mostly follows Kurinuki a Japanese hand-building technique and forms adjusted by Sepideh to create unique and sculptural but perfectly functional cups.
Outcome of this workshop can look primitive or contemporary, complex or minimal ceramic cups based on your taste. I am there to guide you through basics, and farther challenges.
If you want to know how to slow-make an irregular but elegant, sculptural, but functional ceramic cup in a meditative process, this workshop is for you.
This workshop also helps the participants to get to know a very useful clay-carving technique which is not only used to make Kurinuki dishes, but also in making sculptures for those who might be interested in. More interestingly, this course is designed to have plenty of freedom and fun in it allowing you to really enjoy the experience.
Bear in mind that this workshop doesn't end in Desert Spirit studio, because I make sure that you will grasp the essence of Kurinuki technique to know how to start making unique pieces at home using minimal tools and space including some of your kitchen utensils, this is definitely for you. In fact, I would love to keep in touch with the participants in the future to help them with the challenges they might face as well.
